04 one ton overdrive unit cracked, what now?

searched the threads didn't find too much help: thought i would ask more wiser individuals...

2004 3500 cummins /auto/4x4 off road package short wheel base, 155,000 miles. zero mods..

leaking tranny fluid big time, had a crack in the overdrive unit- dealer just epoxied it 2005, 06, 07. now it is leaking on top of the unit....

question 1. any dodge TMs for this?
question 2. go back to dealer and say....what? no warranty now
question 3. how much is this gonna hurt $$$$$$?

what would you guys do? (remember it is MY bank account though!)

Did the dealer just epoxy it while under warranty in 05?

If it occured while under warranty and the problem was never corrected, or corrected "properly", it should still be under warranty.

Other than that, I can't help, but I am subscribing to this thread. I want to know what you find out.

yup warranty when dealer fixed it, probably being decent and saving us money then....

guess i'll be looking for a case, or stripping it (yikes) and TIG welding up the aluminum. i don't want to.

it sounds like it's a common problem but not one that is usually within warranty period or subject to 'customer excessive usage' reason the dealers/dodge reps use to deny a claim. not being rude, just looking at denials on line...

FYI: 4x4 chevys of the 80s had brutal transfer case cracks due to the flex between the transmission and case from torque and frame flex. an adapter plate solved the problem but too late then...gm just went to a lesser tranny and extended transmission/converter area....

anything further, i will post. dealer done for the day....

Before I'd suck it up, I'd be having a chat with someone in corporate.
If that didn't work, might even consider lawyering up or a class action.

If the defect is that common, then you'd probably easily reach "class" status very quickly.

In any event, I guess I'm just not one to take what a rep says as the final word

If epoxied under warranty I'd be ticked off!!! I'd find those maintenance records all call corp. Warranty means fix the issue not cover it up till later.

This,

I would document all of it, take pictures and have a talk with the regional rep and just keep climbing the latter until its paid for.
