04 HO Oil Filter

Does anyone know the correct fleet guard oil filter number for the 2004 High-Output 305? And what is better, the strata pore or microglass? And are the correct filters flutted on the bottom?

I would guess it would be the same as the 03 filters, but even so I don't recall the part number. I believe the stratapore is better than the microglass, and yes, they are fluted (at least for the 03).

From my research part numbers are as follows:

Eng. Oil Filter   Mopar 05083285AA ($11.38)
AMSOIL SDF-80(13.85)
FLEETGUARD LF-3972 or Stratapore LF 16035(9.35)

Re:04 HO Oil Filter

The fluted bottomed filters are for convenience; the non-fluted versions (used in 2nd gens) work just fine.

I've had two of them on my truck already; the first one put on by the dealer, and the 2nd time only because my local Cummins Power Store didn't even stock them yet. I've never even used a wrench on the flutes to remove the others anyways.

I also prefer the Stratapore 16035.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, you can get all of the filters you need at Geno's. I recommend the 4/2/1 kits as you can get all of the filters you need for 30,000 miles for a pretty reasonable price.

Is the Stratapore LF 3894 OK?

I remember reading somewhere that it was OK to use on the 3rd gen engines and just put one on. I hope it's OK!

Yes it is fine to use the LF3894. My Fleetguard dealer called fleetguard and they verified the only difference is the fluted bottom and the price.

I bought mine from Ken's Performance Solutions here in NO. CA. I got 4 oil and 2 fuel had him shipped them direct from the distributor. LF16035 $8.85 - SF19579 $12.65 "NO SHIPPING COST". I did have to pay tax because I live in CA. My total cost to my door was $65.63. Ken is a nice guy to deal with. Jack

Does anyone know if the LF16035 will work on the 2002? I'd like to buy these in bulk (save money) and split them up w/ family and friends.

Yes but they are more expensive than the non-fluted version. When I purchased the filters from the dealer I paid $9.00 for the Gen II filter and $16.00 for the Gen III. Just going from memory I believe the Gen II filters from Genos are $7.95 and $12.95 for the Gen III. The fluting is for a cap wrench for removal from under the truck on the Gen III. You can not remove the filter from underneath on the Gen II. The crossmember is in the way. I always used a strap type filter wrench on my Gen II. Personally I wouldn't pay more for something that I could not use.
