04.5 2500 fuel pump

My fuel pump failed with 2 weeks left on the warranty and 77k miles. Does the fuel pump fall under the 100k motor warranty or the 70k truck warranty?

Is this considered the "Fuel injection pump"?

Nope. It's the fuel transfer pump. If your fuel injection pump died, the truck wouldn't run at all but that too, would be covered under the 100K engine warranty.

I just got off the phone with Dodge and they say it is not covered under the engine. They say it is only 3/36 warr.

Any ideas?

I guess my next action will be to write a letter.

The fuel pump was on the engine when it failed. Now they retro fit the pump to the gas tank. Sounds like an engine component to me, and it was not listed any where else in the warr book.

Go to a different dealer or talk to the service manager. It's covered under the engine warranty. Mine was replaced at 84K miles and 4yrs, 8mos of ownership.

Do a search on old Threads. There is one that tells where in the warranty it is covered. I can't remember it..

The '03 and '04 filter mounted pump is part of the engine but the '04.5 and later is in the tank and is not covered by the engine warranty.

Get an after market pump and pull the old one out of the tank.

The 04.5 is still on the motor, and thus covered by the 5yr/100k warranty. The repair process converts to the in-tank pump like the '05 and up have.

Yes the 04.5 was on the engine and that it why it failed according to the dealership. They said it get too hot from the engine so they now retrofit them in the tank.

I have already had the work done when I was out of town and traveling. I didn't have time or a computer to research it at the time and paid for it just to get going again. However now that I am back and have the time to fight this I want to get my money back.

I will go talk to my regular dealership maintenance guy and see what he says.
