Question '04 (305) wastegate question

Hi all. I have been searching on the proper way to adjust a wastegate on a 305/555 engine. I found a thread back from 2004 and it said to take the wastegate off and shim it with 2 washers to about 1/8". Is this what you '03-'04 owners have been doing for a cheap boost?
Thanks!

After looking it looks like it has an adjustment, but has a dimple in the female end. Any advice? It doesnt look easy getting the vaccume canister off either.

No-- the best and easiest way to accomplish what you wish is through the use of a boost elbow. You can make this yourself (I did, very easy) or buy one from Genos for about $20. Basically, the brass elbow, (coming out of the turbo housing that has the hose going to the wastegate bellows), is drilled to accept a set screw that is then adjusted in or out to regulate the flow of air. You would screw it down enough to restrict air flow to the desired wastegate opening point, say 32 psi.

Thumbs up

Thanks! I just bought that. Now another question...

If the factory setting is in the 22-24psi range, and this will build the boost to 30+ what kind of power increases can I expect? Also setting should I run the BullyDog on?
Thanks!

Gauges you need them with my boost elbow I went from 20lbs of boost to close to 40lbs but you also need the boost fooling from quadzilla. I have a stock '04 I ran my bullydog on extreme and quad race box on 140hp. and it ran a 14.7 in the 1/4 mile at 95 mph and that was in 4wd. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I bought a boost elbow from Ebay for $20 shipped.

The Smarty JR already does boost fooling upto around 44 PSI.

I am going to replace the wastegate hose at the same time, hopefully with a cord braided, layered silicon hose.

I heard the crimp-on clamps are a pain to get off, and it is much easier to just rip them off and replace the clamps and the hose when installing a boost elbow.

I have mine set to 32psi. That's all the stock charger can take (for reliability). I was able to carefully slide the hose off with the clamp still intact.

I ended up buying some 2 ply silicone heater hose, which is manufactured with a 1-ply polyester reinforcement.

Temperature Rating: -65F to 350F
250 PSI Burst

With a stock '04 is there a place to pull off boost/vacuum from for tuning? I know I need gauges but money is tight to add gauges and a 2 pod holder too..

The boost bolt is the first choice for accessing boost pressure. Remove one of the bolts holding down the top cover on the intake manifold and install the boost bolt. Just be careful and not over torque the bolt, since it's hollow.
