hello i have a 2003 cummins 70000 miles sound like its knocking just started dealer says its normal and nothings wrong BS .I think its a injector does anyone know how to tell if its a injector

 

Most of the posts I have seen about knocking turn out to be a bad injector. I think #6 seems to be the culprit most of the time. How long have you owned the truck?

 

Sorry but I just want to ask a quick question here. Which is cylinder 6 and which is 1?

 

#6 is the one closest to the firewall.

I had #6 go bad. The tech uses the DRB11 to turn off injectors one at a time. Star made the dealer swap the injector to very the injector. When the problem moved with injector, then they replaced it.

same thing with my number six injector . Star had them swap it with number one and it still was bad so they replaced it. No more knocking, its quiet like it was when new..........JIM

 

Mine will give about 5 minutes of knocking when starting for the first time after it has sat and gotten cold, after warms up, knocking quits and runs fine. Does not miss while the knock is there in the beginning of the warm up.

Could this be an injector problem too and why does an injector cause the engine to knock?

Rick, if it didn't do it when it was cold before it may be something but they do get louder as it gets colder.

 

It did not do it as loud today but it was warmer today comes and goes .Is star the manufacture of the injector ?

 

Has anyone noted any performance loss/change (power, economy, etc.) with these knocking injectors, or are they just annoying to listen to?

 

I guess to the meat of the subject for me..............With a knock caused by an injector problem, will this damage any internal components of the engine or just strike a sour note on the inner-ear drums ?

had the dealer do the injector test today couldnt hear any differance when he shut one off the knocking noise was still their any ideas
