03 fuel pump keeps running?

On the norm the fuel pump comes on just to prime the pump at start up, correct?

The last few days in the morning, (before I turn on the A/C and radio) when I am driving I keep hearing the pump going on for a couple of seconds and then going off. It does it all the way untill I get to the freeway, where I can't hear it anymore because of road noise.

Is this normal (never heard it before) or is it a sign of the pump going out?

I have 98,000 on the truck.

Thanks

I beat you are hearing the vaccum pump making noise. Check your vaccum lines going to the cruise control dashpot.

No, I know what the fuel pump sounds like. On 2003 and early 04, they are mounted on the engine and you can hear them quite well. (at idel)

Just talked to a dealership and they said it is loosing vacum. First signs of a pump going bad.
