I'm wondering where he bought the 1100$ APPS? I'm going to start buying them at normal cost and selling them for 1100$!

well you can spend less than $500 on a lift pump upgrade and bigger line kit, and maybe $300 in a gauge set-up which will eliminate prolly 90% of VP44 failures, and 100% of lift pump failures (if you take it out) and the truck will be very reliable.

go get a 7.3 powerstroke, then tell me its quieter, easier to work on if something does break, not to mention the common problems they have...
injectors, turbos, HPOP, randomly not starting when its below 50* out...there is no $500 precautionary measure you can take to prevent those items from randomly going out. you can however supply good clean fuel to the VP44 and solve the issue.

Let me tell it to you from somebody that had ALL the diesels, starting from the 6.9Ford to 6.2 GM, when you go Cummins you don't come back, PERIOD.
Even the mighty Duramax is not comparable to it, it's the Allison that makes it more appealing.
Follow the suggestions everybody posted and you'll enjoy your truck a whole lot more.

But if you are really unhappy let me know, i'll be glad to help you buying your truck AS IS right now....

You should sell it to me cheap since it is broke

Getblown you forgot to add glow plugs and relays.
All it takes to prevent a 7.3 from starting is 1 or 2 glow plugs out and 50 degrees or less air temp = no go

Yes most of us seem to like our trucks they are not perfect but what is?
I think once you get the bugs out of your fuel system you will be in good shape.
My 99 dually quad cab with 3.55 axle 5sp and over 200k on it was getting 21.3 mpg last summer hand calculated we will see what this ulsd fuel will due i expect maybe 19.5-20 don't you just love paying more and getting a lesser grade of product ?
You should be able to get high teens at least if you drive it easy keep the rpm around 1825-1900 seems best.
PM if you need some help or decide to sell.

Yeah, I agree. Diesels blow. I think they should be outlawed.

Sounds like you got a bad one. This can happen in any brand. I bought the most expensive Toyota I could get in 1995 and I took a $3500 loss to get rid of it 11 months later. That was the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned and it was $28000 at the time. Sounds like you have worked through most of the issues. Hang in there.
(the noise part is cool but not for everyone)
