Why Should I Keep This Pita!!!!
I traded my gas ram for th CTD hoping to get better fuel mileage, but all I did was go from 10 mpg to 13 mpg for a extra $10,000! Already put in 3 lift pumps. Now I get the dead pedal(or maybe a APPS, who knows?) thats another $1100.Its noisy it smells. It seems like there is a lot of problems with the 24v's, I wonder if I bought a 7.3 PSD if I would have these problems?
Sorry to rant, but I sometimes get fed up with this thing.I do love the truck I just wish it wasnt so noisy.

As far as being loud, to me thats one of the perks. 24v's do have alot of fuel related problems, hope you get them worked out and are happy with the truck. You should be getting close to 20+mpg's easily on a 24v.

Diesels aren't for every one, but to say they smell and that they are noisy. You have just wrankled the hairs on every diesel head in the country. A Prius might be what you need they smell and are very noisy.

Bill is right. You probably wouldn't have all those fuel problems with a 12 valve. But a 12 valve is hard to come by these days.I looked for 2 years before I found one and then I had to settle for an auto. The noise and the smell are just part of the "charm" of a Cummins.

I bought the 24v because it had low mileage and in good shape, also to tow my car in an enclosed trailer(the 1500 didnt do it so well)I probably will put a new vp44 or apps if I can figure out which is the problem and keep it, I hope the new vp44 will last a while ,I dont want to keep throwing money at it. As for the Pirus go... well I wont go there. I thought about selling it and getting a hemi but I was concerned how well it will tow.

I am told a hemi does a good job towing if rpm's are kept in the upper range. The nice thing about a Cummins is you have the muscle to tow about anything you can hook it up to.The harder mine works, the better it runs. The clackity, clack turns to a nice hum at 60-65 mph.

Get your VP-44 and lift pump issues straight and you'll be good to go.
If you didn't already know that diesels are "noisy and smell" then shame on you for not being an more informed consumer before the sale. One test drive should tell you that much.
One of the few things I miss about my 2001 is in fact the sound!
Oh, and I got a CONSISTANT 17-18 MPG's in my old truck around town (summer) and up to 20.5 on the highway empty. Your fuel issues may be robbing you of some there..........

If it'll make you feel any better, my son had a 02 or 03 7.3 PSD, he had 2 trannys and one short block in about 160,000 miles, he now drives a 06 Goat, as he calls it.
