Where is good place for gauge light power hookup?

I just installed my fass pump and isspro FP gauge on my 01 dodge 3500.

Everything went pretty well .....but I am unsure where is best place to hook up or tap off to get power off the headight/switched circuit for power for gauge light? I looked up in the underdash area and normally a few spare 12v sources are left open for just such added accessories.

If I don't have to take dash apart to access back of headlight switch I would like to know best place to get switched light source for gauges. I am not a fan of jamming wire into fuse box either.

Where have any of you guys hooked/spliced for switched light source?

Thanks..

You know, they make fuse piggybacks. It has a wire coming outa one end and the other replaces the fuse it self and has a spot for the original fuse and one for the new wire.

Or use a test light and find a wire on the rear of the hedlight/dimmer switch which is on/off and dims.

3 screws takes out the ashtray and the silver metal clip comes out of the whole thing, the bulb then will slide out of the metal clip. There are 2 wires to the light just take the one with power when lites are on. This comes from the dimer so the gauges will dim.

Cool... thanks!

I will try that when I get home. That'll work because I mounted the FP gauge just below that next to shifter console.

I used the cab lights wire that runs right past the fuse panel in the truck.

The fuse in the panel marked Inst lights ( I think ) anyway it is fused ,Variable
voltage from the rheostat sw, a piggy back fuse here will give you
variable voltage for the gage lights on a seperate fused circuit.

I think you are referring to the Illumination fuse

If you remove the ashtray for that wire, I think it is the orange one. Easy to get to and works to dim your gauge just as you like your dash.

I have been unable to find them locally, where did you get yours?

I tapped into the wiring harness behind my headlight switch.
