Gauge hookup
Gauge hookup
Finishing the gauge hookup.
With the pyro and trans gauge. Where do most of you tie into? Constant "hot" wire or the ignition switch wire? If it is the constant then you could actually monitor the temp even after the truck is off. With the ignition switch, would the needle stay right where it was after shutting the truck off?

pyro will settle to about 200 with power off....at least mine does(ign) Only drawback to constant hot is power is always being fed to the probe, and over long enough time can run the batteries down. Never seen this on our trucks with double batts, but it could.
Trans will always settle to zero.

I get my gauge feed and ground from the cigar lighter. It is on with the ignition. Tap the acc. power port for constant on power. The light in the ash tray is a good place to tie in the gauge lights.
I'm trying to find the ignition hot under the dash that goes to the cigar lighter. Too many wires. Does anyone offer any other suggestions to find the ideal wire. I have it now going to a ignition hot, but I'm not sure that it is a good one. Everytime I turn the truck off the gauge jumps as if it is getting residual voltage from a possible capacitor. The needle jumps.
Pull out your ash tray and reach up behind the dash to find the wiring harness for it. It should be two wires, orange with black and black with orange I think, One is hot and one is the ground. The harness unplugs from the main harness in that area. Tie in there.
I found those two wires. I believe they are for the light in the ashtray. They would be a good place for the light dimmer.
I found a tan wire in a terminal block under the dash. It was hot with the ignition. Problem solved.

I hooked up with the ignition. I agree with you halerazor, if I was going to hook up constant hot then yes, I would want an in line fuse. It would have been easy to hook up constant hot, there are two batteries to choose between.
