What do you think about this truck?

2001 Dodge 3500 Cummins Diesel 4WD Quad cab. One owner AZ truck with complete maintenance records. 5.9 Six cyliinder High Output engine with power chip. Six speed long bed dually with 90 gallon auxillary fuel tank/tool box and jake brake. Engine replaced at 250K miles... now 540K. Has gooseneck and bumper hitches as well as frame for Reese 5th wheel hitch. Runs great, never wrecked, looks good too! Silver with beige interior. Has been very well maintained. 90% interstate miles. Gets 20 mpg alone, or 11-ish with a big trailer full of stuff like animals. Will pull just about anything!
Book value over $15K, asking $7,500.

THe interior and body looks great, no major damage.

I would stay away. With over 500K and an engine replaced at 250K something is not right. Maintenance records aside the truck was abused somehow. Does it have gauges? If not why does it have a fuel/timing/programming box on it? That may be why the engine was replaced . Do you really want to chance your $7500 to find out what else the previous owner treated the same way? It's obvious the truck has had a lifetime of work and then some, but if high mileage, used trucks are you thing....

I would not even look at a truck that was modded without gauges. Plus the engine should not have been worn out at 250k. And it is a lot of miles on the body/chassis.

Some more info from the seller:
"The engine was replaced at 250K miles with an engine with 17K on it. It has
no problems known to me - does not burn oil and has very good oil pressure."

Someone had put down a deposit and looked at it, then for some reason backed out. Hmmmmm wonder why.....My truck is being painted right now, i think i'll just be satisfied with my 409k rear main leaking CTD lol...As long as I keep oil in it she's fine.

Is it possible that it had one of the last of the 53 blocks, and it cracked at 250000...thus the replacement...it may have vp44 problems...I do question a truck with 500,000 miles still having a blue book value of 15k...seems high.

Anything with that many miles will need work on suspension steering etc if it hasn't been done, its just how much are you willing to do?

^^^ new suspension, new steering, new brakes, new bearings.... youd have to replace all these things within the near future, and not just a simple replacment of parts, when i say brakes your replacing the master cylinder, rotors, calipers, ect.. dont buy it

I'd stay away. The tranny, axles, seals throughout, wheel bearings, u-joints, etc, etc, etc. You get the picture. The motor might be fine, the rest of the truck might be on the overhaul list.

Like everybody else has hinted and suggested and, just because our engines last a long time doesnt mean all the other components do. The rest of the moving parts wear out as much as any other truck with that many miles new engine or not

The engine's not even new anymore--was replaced @ 250k with an engine that already had 17k; truck now has 540k--that's 307k on the current engine! It may have also been ragged on the same way the original one was too (unless it was a cracked 53 block as stated previously), so it may be time to have this engine swapped out. I've made a lot of rash decisions in the past when it came to purchasing automobiles (especially in my teenage years and early 20s) just to get the kind of vehicle I wanted at a price I could handle, and this sounds like something I would have steered away from even then!
