wastegate is attached to the turbo, it bypasses exhaust gas past turbo when boost gets to high. Take the hose off of the actuator and plug it.

You don't know much for a self proclaimed TurboDude. I guess you will have to work up to the name.

An Internal wastegate is an internal wastegate..

The turbo systems work the same as a gasser... until you go compound twins on a diesel...

Question while you guys are on the subject

I have a question if anyone can help.....To test the wastegate actuator how much Pressure does it take to open it?
I beleive mine is shot and I am having trouble finding one,,,My local Diesel shop said good luck after they called cummins,,,,,, My local Dodge Dealer checked and said there is one on the west coast,,,. 3 To 5 days to get ,,,

Thanks
Bob

What is it doing, or not doing that makes you think it is bad? Do you think the wastegate is leaking or not opening? If the diaphram inside the actuator is shot, you should be able to blow air into it and it will not hold the air. You could use a compressor but you would have to turn it way down. The opening pressure for the wastegate should be 18 PSI. You can pressurize it and watch to see if it actuates and holds.

Yes that is what I did ,, But with 20psi, And the air is just leaking right out of the actuator,,, Theres my overboost code,,,,,
Having trouble finding one ,,, But of course Dodge can order it for $150.00 and have it in five days,,, My local Cummins shop laughed at me said they cant get it,Get it from dodge.. I was hoping to find a used one. I bought a map sensor from dodge, for the overboost code, and dont need it,,Its brand new if anyone has a good actuator to trade for it.

Thanks
Bob

Truckman, have you considered replacing the OEM wastegate with a Turbo-Master wastegate controller? I have one on my 97 and it's worked flawlessly for about a year since I installed it. While I got mine used, last I heard was they're still available at http://www.heathdiesel.com/ even though their website doesn't show Dodge Ram/CTD parts anymore. I emailed Heath Diesel about their not showing CTD parts and got the following reply back. I have mine set to bypass at close to 38 psi and from what I can tell it's doing just that.

Steve,

The Turbo-Master designs are our own and we will begin making these available through a number of suppliers. Even though they will not be listed on our site, we will continue to supply these to callers.

If you would like one, just give us a call. We will be happy to meet your needs

Best regards

You might want to try a rebuildable turbo on E-bay or something. I can't believe just the actuator would cost so much. Have you considered getting the Edge EZ with the boost fooler so you don't have the boost codes? Then you could clamp the wastegate with a turnbuckle and forget about it.

First thing Heath Diesel told me was WE DONT DO DODGE ANYMORE... I was shocked and said OK Bye...

Just called Heath back and just asked for the Turbo-Master wastegate controller,They said YES we sell them,,,Gave them my info and They have one in stock,,, $124.00, A Little cheaper then the dealer,But not much. And it is also spring pressure operated,,Not actuated from the pressure out of the turbo.SO For the $20.00 difference I stayed with the one from the dealer seeing as how I allready ordered it.

Thanks for the info

Bob
