Wastegate not hooked up, Drive or not drive?

Well, I have been driving the truck but just not as hard as normal.
I got a new vaccume piece and rod for the wastegate from Cummins $160+$20 shipping :'( . My neighbor (a DC mechanic for 20 yrs who has his own shop now) adjusted it to specs he got from DC. In 4th,5th and,6th I had no power so I disconected vaccume line and wow, Lot's of power. I am assuming that I need to readjust the wastegate because it was opening up too soon. I have not had anytime to pull turbo out to adjust again, Will I be alright if I take it easy?
I wish I had just wired the **** thing shut and bought a boost gauge instead. I may just return the vaccume piece and get a gauge.
Thanks for any help and suggestions!
Copenhgagenjunkie

It won't hurt to drive with the wastegate disabled. Driving normally won't be any problem. Some guys are making 40+ pounds. Only problem might be setting a code if you go to high. If you have a box, then it may not even set the code.

Copenhagenjunkie- keep a very close eye on your EGTs while driving with the wastegate disabled. Since you can take the turbo above the map without the wastegate this could result in high EGTs .
Too much boost will set a code ( If you don't have a box), but should not occur because the truck should defuel if you are getting close to the max boost.
If you get more power with the wastegate disabled and no box the wastegate must be set wrong.

HTH

AlpineRAM
