Turbo back exhaust installation from the ground.
My local shop charges $100 to install a 4 incher. I could probably do it myself provided if could be done from the ground on a 4x4, and with basic tools (real basic : )? Or, considering the task, is it worth the money to him do it.

Basic tools, lying on the ground? Have him do it, or you'll be commatose by the end of the day.
Seriously, it's a hit and miss. A friend of mine has a '99 and it popped off and on, no problem. With mine, I pounded, twisted and cut at it for several hours, and then finally took it into the local muffler shop. They had to cut it up with a torch and extract it piece by piece. And it was only three months old. You could try it and see. You can always "call for reinforcements."

yeah... i would just have it done Tom. Mine went on pretty quick, but they were having a rough time up at the turbo with one of the bolts. Had to torch it off... :

Tony

Yeah, I guess it's one of those simple, but nasty jobs that's better to steer clear of.

I had no trouble putting mine on. The hardest part was takeing the old one off. I had to cut it in half to get it out since the clamps were so rusted. The turbo bolts came out no problem because for a week befor the job when the turbo is hot rub parafin (or candle wax) on the bolts. They will break free no problem.

Tom, i did mine on the ground in about 2 hours. If you have Sawzall getting the old one out is easy. You probably want to see if you can get bolts loose from turbo first, they may have to be heated. Installation of new is easy. I don't have a problem paying to have it done, I just have a hard time letting people work on my truck. (unless its Scott)
Tim

Why don't you purchase a complete system? A stainless system is arounf $850.00 plus shipping. I have one on my 97 and just had one installed on my 03.

jt

I like to do the work myself. Mine went on in 3 hours (1 hour dinner break. Hey, we were having steak ;D). Hardest part was getting the bolts for the downpipe loose from the turbo. It's just a hard area to reach. I'd do it again in a heart beat. I put a muffler back on my friends furd in less than 30 mins. And that involved making two cuts with a dull, bent sawzall blade (I recommend using a sharp, straight one ;D) and banging on some hangers.

Stainless if it is T304 will last as long as the motor. In canada we salt the roads all winter and your exhaust may only last three or four years.

jt
