trading up....maybe?

i have been away from this site for over two years now fighting the big "C", but am back to life now and thinking of trading up my marvelous cummins.
i currently have a '94 12 valve that has been flawless over the last eight years i have owned it. i am now thinking of going to a 2001 24v. (this my be a bad move on my part) but would welcome comments from members on the 2001 year model. it a 3500, 4x4 with auto, 3.54 rearend. i would be very interested if the were any bad issues with this model year or any other comments or heads-up you might have. thanks a lot guys and gals.

doesnt an 01 24v have the infamous VP-44 pump? that alone would be enough to scare me off.

I have a 2001.5, and I really like it. Can you keep your 12 Valve and still get a 24 Valve?
Forgive my ignorance, but what's the 'Big C'?

That would be "cancer" Marine. My mother is a "survivor" and doing well. Glad to hear you've won the good fight dustoff.

I have an 01 and while I love it after doing the mods in my sig......I'm out of warranty so have become a member of the "2K club". That would be having the little black cloud over your head that always reminds you that the VP 44 is capable at failing any time it dang well pleases. 2K usually covers the tow, pump, install, and possibly a meal and a night in the motel. If it happens at home it will only run me $900, but when does that ever happen.

The brakes on the 01's are mucho better than the 94-95 trucks.

I like the dash, a/c vent configuration better on the 01.

Quad cab is handy so you don't have to climb past the front seat.

Cancer- I get it now. My Step-Dad is a survivor, as well as a close friend of mine. Glad to have you back, dustoff.

I agree with the brakes, the dash, and the QC. In my mind, even the possibility of a VP failure is worth having my 2001.5.

thanks guys for the input. i traded out today for the 2001. it was a tough decision for me since my '94 was so good and dependable, but hopefully this 2001 will be also. by the way is there a way to determine if it has the H.O. engine, like vin number or something. again, thanks for your valued input.

HO was only available with the six speed.....so if you have to row through the gears, you got a HO.
