I my be trading my 05 2500 in for a low mile truck what is your opinion the 6.7 vs the 5.9???????? can delete all of the emission crap to make it sound like a diesel. for you guys that have a 6.7 would you do it over if you could are go back to a 5.9 and whats the biggest trouble you have with the 6.7??????
help me out here
help me out here
i own two and would not go back to a 5.9l. the 6.7 is so strong and so smooth that it doesnt even compare. there are no dead spots in the rpm range and it will pul anything until you say stop... with all my emissions entact because i dont keep them long enough i am very very happy with whole truck..right down to the interior controls
I still love my 5.9, but I have to say that I'm a big fan of the 6.7. The 68rfe performs much better than the 48re when tugging big loads. My 2008 still has all the emission hardware on it and it still has plenty of power.

Well as far as buying a new 6.7 no I would not, but that is just because I dont want to pay for another new truck again.
If I wanted an auto, 6.7/68re would be my choice.
For a stick, it would depend on which truck I found and the deal offered on it.

I've owned both, and I kept the 5.9 and got rid of the 6.7.
Too many emissions problems, too many check engine lights, and this sounds weird, but it was too quiet for me. I like to hear a diesel. I loved the tranny though, and it did have terrific power, although I never pulled anything heavy with it.
My 5.9 with the 6-speed manual tranny does everything I need it to do, sounds just right, and no emissions garbage to drag it down and waste fuel.
I think you probably can't go wrong either way, just depends on your needs, tastes, and budget, like everything in life. If you are in a position to do the emissions garbage delete (no emissions testing where you live), then it's probably a win-win if you don't mind the chance of them finding out and voiding your warranty.
I say buy one of each.

I have an 08 6.7 2500 4x4. I never had a 5.9, so I can't really compare. If the 5.9 runs anything at all like this 6.7, I am sure that I would like it. The 6 speed auto and the e-brake on this 6.7 really make driving it enjoyable. The only things I don't like about this truck are the emissions junk and the associated check engine lites. But hopefully they have the software updated to fix those problems. The other thing I don't like is the dealer I bought it from. Never will I buy another from that place. I get all of my warranty stuff done at another dealer that is happy to get my business.

The most simple way to go is to get a programmer that allows for full delete of the emmisions system with no sims and get an exhaust system for a 06-07 5.9.
I don't even know if I would even buy a Dodge at this point. I'm so ****** off at the Government bailout of GM that my next vehicle up to this point will be a ford only because they did not take one penny of the bailout money. I do make it a point to identify my truck as a PRE-bailout dodge Ram. I suppose it doesn't matter though, does it?

Well there are plenty of "pre bailout" used Dodge out there for me. Not buying new again.
Let us know how that new Ford works out.... bet the cab smells like cedar shavings....

I currently own both a 5.9 and a 6.7 .... man I love the power on the 6.7 engine, even with the EPA garbage on it. It's definately got some giddy-up to it and I almost got a ticket with it this past summer when I got a change to drive it while home on vacation from the sandbox. The military ID and orders helped me get a warning
Now, if I could get a 68RFE in my '06 I would do it in a heartbeat. Anybody know if this could be a possibility?
