Tires and wheels Your thoughts? MB wheels
Tires and wheels Your thoughts? MB wheels
I need new tires. Mine are shot now. So I made the rounds to 4 local tire shops. I had one of my alloy rims crack on the inside and had that welded and now I have another rim cracked. About 3/4". I need to have this one welded. Discount tire threw a wrench in the deal. Their offer:
4 new michelin ltx ms2 tires 265 75 16 installed and
4 new MB wheels installed with lug nuts and wheel locks
Final price is $1001 after $70 mail in rebate from michelin.
Here are the wheels they offered.

The wheels are supposed to have lifetime warranty and have a load rating of 3400lbs.
Has anyone had any experience with MB wheels from Discount tire?
I can buy the tires for about $850 installed. Is this a good price?
I am not into alot of truck detailing. I am concerned these wheels will be more hassle trying to keep clean than they are worth... idk.. Your opinions are appreciated. thanks

I think I like these better. Would they be less hassle to keep clean?

I also am liking the matte black finish.

Hey, how is life in Redford? Haven't been there in about a year (we lived there for 6 years)
Anyways, IMHO I would probably take the black rims as them seem they would be easier to maintain. Not sure I would go with Michelins.
I have a set of Nokian tires I absolutely love. They were better in the snow and I have put 40K on them and they were used when I bought them. Not sure but they probably have an "E" tire? I know a place in Ann Arbor on State south of I94 sells the Nokian.
Just my few pennies of thought.

Regarding Discount Tire, they price match web prices so....decide what wheels & tires you want - read reviews whatever (tirerack runs some tests & has data on some). Call discount to make sure they carry or can get what you found. Print the page with the best price & take it with you. Make sure to take the link also. Some sites make their $ on shipping so wheels & tires will be at cost or below.
I had MB Predators on my old truck with BFG 315/70-17 AT T/A KO's from Discount tire. Loved the look. I only towed my 5th wheel about 3 times with them and towed another 2nd gen on my gooseneck trailer once. No issues with the rims. Member XLR8R had the same rims on his 3rd gen and cracked one while towing a 2nd gen on his gooseneck. Discount replaced it I believe.

I went with the ltx ms2's 265/75/r16... installed for $797.00
Got it done today. WOW what a difference...That's a load off... Now the 5.7 vortec is ready to be picked up at the motor exchange. Too many projects. Thanks for the replies fellas..

Those are excellent tires. I ran those in a 285 before I went to the 17" rims. I think the truck came stock with LTX A/S which were crappy in the rain. The M/S's had much better traction.
Was thinking about if you go to a black rim, would the coating on the rim stand up to road salt?

Black rim, I was told that the powder coat finish on some rims is very reliable and holds up well in the weather and roads. I used my stock alloy wheels. They ballanced good so I should be ok. The tire guys told me that the dodge wheels cracking is very uncommon and most likely due to low air in the tires or bad tires/ way out of ballance.
