Tailgate Plastic Thing

Does anyone know the best way to remove the plastic cover from outside of the tailgate? Mine has come partially un-taped and I think they look better gone any way. Thanks for your help guys.

heat it with a blow dryer (or similar) to soften the glue, then gently peel it off

Once you get it off, use 3M decal remover and a razor blade to remove any glue left. The decal remover can be found at places that sell auto paint. This remover was made to take off strips and the fake woodgrain used on station wagons.

I'd suggest a plastic kitchen spatula and some mineral spirits. Works great.

After you spray the glue left behind from removing the plastic. Once the glue bubbles you scrap the bubbled glue off. I have done this many times replacing the strips on cars and removing dealer stickers on new cars. If you lay the razor blade down to a very low angle it will not hurt the paint. With a metal spatula you would be more apt to scratch the paint. With a plastic spatula just how many times would you have to go over it to get the glue off.

I got bad news for you 2k1yzfr1 most the body shops use a razor blade

Let the body shops use the razor blades. Then if they scratch the paint they can fix it as well.

I have always wrapped a putty knife in a rag... I'm not brave enough to use a razor blade on my truck. The body shops can do it however they want, and fix anything they might mess up. I'll be careful with my baby.

Would any of y'all with this plastic piece left over be willing to sell it to me? I'd love to put one back on this used truck I just bought that doesn't have one. PM me if we could maybe work something out. Thanks!
