red plastic tailgate trim question

Well the po had the tailgate off a lot and water has work it's way under the red plastic piece ..........so after i completely remove...clean off glue and water stains what is the best /factory clear adhesive to attach with . Thanks

I just used a 3M double sided tape. Been on for a few years now.

After mine fell off I noticed there were some spots where the the transparent red paint on the back had pulled off. I ended up using about 10 coats of duplicolor red candy on the outside then using roberts contact cement (professional grade) on both parts. It has survived the drastic weather changes we have here for over a year without incident.

I goofed mine up with epoxy and it looks kinda nasty
