Adhesive strips.

Heat er up with a hair dryer... heat gun.... whatever. Peel it off. Spend a few hours scrubbing adhesive residue off and you have a tailgate that has factory color.

Or run to your local autoparts store and pickup a pinstripe eraser wheel they work exellent and last along time. You can strip all the double sided adhesive off in about 15 or 20 min.

I have used the 3M decal/adhesive remover from Napa, and it works really good. Just make sure you get the stuff that is safe on paint, otherwise you will have a very shiney truck

Perhaps not the most aesthetic trim piece, but it is functional.

That trim piece protects the tailgate from dents and scratches caused by debris that might be on the rear bumper. When you open the gate, it sandwiches the debris between the bumper and your paint.

Just an FYI if you remove the plastic trim, make sure you don't have snow ice, rocks, whatever on your bumper before you open the gate. It does not take much to dent the tailgate.
