Stuck throttle cable
More cold weather blues. Today I went to start my 95 CTD so I could move it and plow the snow that had piled up after yesterdays storm. Being cold I was pushing on the pedal to up the rpms on starting and suddenly the pedal was loose and I could see the cable sticking out and not returning. I went under the hood and lubed all the pivots on the linkage and took off the return spring to see if it was faulty. Still no go. I was able to manually move the linkage and started the truck and warmed it up thinking maybe things would release when warm. Not. Anybody have any ideas. I am going to search also. Thanks
Andrew

It's only free the first time. If the recall has already been done then you will have to pay.
Check with the dealer if it has not been done they will replace the cable and ball linkages for free. The inner cable is known to fray and get stuck inside.

i had mine done, but the cable still stays attatched, i know mine wasnt removed... It adds the little ball and socket deal and it works fairly well. It has not gotten stuck on me yet...

I called the dealer and he said the truck had it replaced in 2001. He also said it was a one time deal. The recall kit is 30 bucks so I am getting it. In the meantime I put a spring on the cable pivot and hooked it in a hole I drilled on fan shroud.

Thats the theory anyway.

The idea of the recall is that they fix the problem not just install the same part again. Once it is "fixed" (usually with some different or modified parts) the safety is no longer supposed to be an issue and so no more repairs - and no need to do it more than once.
