should I buy 2000 cummins dodge diesel?

I am in the Bay Area. Are there any problems with a 2000 Dodge, 2WD, Cummins 24 valve diesel pick up long bed? I want to convert to biodiesel. Asking price is $13,900. Does anyone have any thoughts for a new diesel owner? Thanks.

I bought the same truck, only 4x4 about 9 months ago. First diesel, first Dodge. Here are some things I've ran into that could save you time/money. If I'd known it would've for me. Anyway, take it to a mechanic and have the fuel pressure checked, lift pumps/injector pumps are an issue with these trucks. The lift pump goes bad and over heats the injector pump. Total bill was about $1700 for new lp/ip. Also, I don't know if this is an issue with the 4x2's or not. Have the front end checked out. Ball joints, track bar, general suspension. I did 4 ball joints plus track bar for another $1200. If I had it to do again, I'd also have it scanned for codes or do a general diagnostic scan. There are little things that will show up, maybe, but they will also make you question your decision. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck, rides better than the wife's Expedition. A little knowledge before hand would've saved me alot of money and frustration. Also, read alot on DTR. The people on here have been loads of help. Hope this helps.

buying a 2000 Dodge diesel

I don't know the price of a 2000 2WD in the Bay area but I know it will be much cheaper in Okla or Texas. Go to Autotrader and type in the parameters and see what I mean. I saved almost $6K by flying to Okla from Oregon and buying a 2WD 2002 Dodge diesel for only $18,500 (truck booked at $26K) The 'snowbirds' buy them to pull their 5th wheels for a year or 2 and them sell trade them for a big car. There are hundreds for sale every week.
