2000 Dodge Diesel with Cummins engine
2000 Dodge Diesel with Cummins engine
My brother-in-law just bought a 2000 Dodge Diesel dually truck and it is broke down on the road right now. The truck is running rough and has no throttle response. I have read some posts about injector problems, MAP sensors, and APPS problems.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the truck?
Also, what is APPS? and how do you reset it? I have read some posts where people 'reset' the APPS and it worked, but how is this done?
We are at a loss and the truck is on the side of the road. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I would get her off the side of the road with another truck and trailer if possible. Once Home....then worry about fixing her. The Injector Pump is not a Road Side fix and I would about bet that a new one is in his future.... Try a Fuel Filter Replacement first and see.......
Is the CEL on? Some of the 2000's will check the codes with the key, turn key on (not start just on) then off, on, off then leave it on and watch the odometer. if you get an 0216 your IP has took a dump, (with I would bet is your problem) an 0122 or 0123 is the APPS. Do a search for the reset, it will pop right up. Plan on making arrangements to get the truck off the road, probley not going to be an easy fix, SORRY. Alot of these truck are traded off or sold because the PO knows that the IP is on it's way out.
You will probably need a code scanner to find out what the other codes are, as I am sure there are some. P1693 is just a companion code to state that there is another code stored in the PCM. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If not, you need one, even if it's a cheapy from the auto parts store to make sure you have fuel pressure at the inlet of the VP44. My guess is you don't, but who knows...
If it is rough on acceleration, it's almost guaranteed a fuel problem, and the usual culprit is the VP44 I am sad to say.
