Shock absorbers?
Hello
Who makes a good shock for the CTD's these days? Found my 98 was rougher than usual when I went out last night...Think probably my shocks are gone. A lot of front end bounce. Anyhoo, they are factory, at 78000 miles.
They should probably be changed.
I am not lifted and I dont do much off-roading. Just pulling off into like farm and field driveways when I go hunting, stuff like that.
---oops....sorry moderators....wrong forum

Re:Shock absorbers?
I would not get Rancho RS5000s. I had them on my last truck, they were stiff... Too stiff... Bilstein makes great shocks. They get my vote. Bilstein or Rancho RSX or RS9000s.

I really like my Rancho 9000's with the in-cab controller. I do everything - tow, freeway, mountains, off-road... and they allow me to have a soft or stiff ride depending on my mood and road conditions.

They work very well in combination with airbags.

Tackett

They work very well in combination with airbags.

I have thought about that setup but havent ran across anyone with them on air, man looks like another weeks pay going down the drain
Wonder what they would be like with a 11' 3" lance camper
2800lbs loaded

When I'm empty, I run 10# in the bags, and 2-3 on the Ranchos. When I drop in the camper, or hook up a trailer, I crank up the air, and the shocks. When I want to push it on curvy roads, I crank the shocks way up.

I hauled a BB Ford 460 and trans (C-6?) to a friend in Nevada, plus a 200# bumper, and a large AC unit. I put enough air in the bags to level the ride, stiffened the rear shocks a bit, and never noticed there was an extra 1,500-2,000# in the back.

If you do your own work, you should be able to put in 4 shocks, two bags, both compressors, and 2 in cab controllers in a long day.

Tackett
- I think you'll love it
