Pretty sure at least on the NV4500 the **** doesn't unscrew, have to take the indicator off and a M10X1.5 nut below, see this below.

Peal back the shifter **** cover with a small flat head screw driver, back of the nut under it than spin the **** off.
Then swap the *****.

Or if all you are needing to do is change the cap on the ****, then pry out the 5 speed **** cover and swap in the 6 speed one, without even changing the **** as they are the same the ****.

I put this guy on mine years back. Looks stock, feels better than stock and better than those aftermarket ones with set screws that always come loose. They make em for 6 speed civics too. Ton of different options.

Boil a shop towel and wrap it around the shift ****, wait a minute, then take it off and use a small flathead screwdriver to pop out the cap with the shift pattern on it. The nut is under that. You can mung up the rubber **** if you try to do this at ambient temp....

It might consume less water, time and energy to just microwave a wet rag in a bowl for a minute or so......Ben

^^^^Not bad idea, up there!!

I replaced my stock **** with a "6" ball I drilled and tapped. It's diesel green and the correct number of gears. You can see it in my profile pics......
