Re:Roof headliner
Rattle,
The cloth is coming off the foam backing... Any glue you use will saturate the cloth and show. When you buy new headliner material it will come with foam backing on it and that is what you glue to the hardboard.
To redo your headliner just remove your hardboard and take all the cloth and foam off...Carefully
Spray Contact Cement such as 3m on both the hard board and the foam backing of the material and let it dry for a few minutes.
You are now ready to apply the new material to the hardboard. Lay it out over the harboard barely attaching all four corners.
With your clean hands start in the middle and press and smooth the material onto the harboard working your way out to the sides.
After all material is smoothed out use a razor blade and trim the cloth to fit and cut out all the holes.
Re-install in your truck.....

Re:Roof headliner
Ya Rattle thats the BAD news... The good news is it is real easy and the material is really cheap! Should cost you less, MUCH less, than 15.00 per yard and you won't need very much at all.
We used to install them for people for 60.00 10 years ago and made money. Back then the material cost us 6.95 per yard.
Thats how quick and easy it is....
Material is sold by linear yard (3') at roll width so 1 yard is 3'x width of roll. Not 3'x3'
Good luck.....
