Removing the dash?

Angry Removing the dash?

[B]Hi Guys: Shore could use alota help on this one. I am trying to remove the dash on my 97 dodge 3500. Was doing fine on the drivers side but reached some woo"s when I got on the right side. All screws removed up near windshield, and left & right by the door. Can't find any more screws, but the right side isn't coming loose by the glove box area.
Boy, any help on this one would be greatly appreciated, as I am lost now.

look in the glove box I think there are some in there

also take the glove box out and look behind it

Scoggins: Thanks for reply. I have been fighting this for awhile. 2 things I want to do under there is replace one of the vent hoses which must have a hole in it. The other while I have it striped down is install my guages which must have 3 inches of dust on them by now. I also need to find nylon 11 d.o.t. tubing. This area of TX, I just get a funny look at the parts houses when I ask such a silly question for it. There answer is the clear tubing. But one of the lines is for my onboard compressor capable of 200 psi. So I will just have to search the net harder.

Yea, I got that one. Infact all visable screws have been removed. Where it seems to be stuck is over the right side, just passed the radio over the glove box to the cornor of the door.
There must be some screws up behind the glove box area. Got lazy today and want to go out in the cool wind. That's what retirement does to you.

What are you exactly trying to remove, this past weekend my buddy and i tore his entire dash out so he could replace the heater core. The Dash is in two parts, the main peice which is the part that holds your gauges, radio, cup holders vents, and climate controls. The second part is the top part of the dash which butts up against the windshield. Now we removed the top part of the dash to get better access to the heater core. There are a butt load of screws holding the top part of the dash on to the main dash. We unbolted the main dash and was able to pull it away from the firewall, then after we did that we had to unscrew all of the defrost vents from the dash, then we had to remove a bunch of screws up behind the glove box, they are not easy to get to, but once you get them all out, the top section of the dash will come apart from the main section. We should have took some pictures. By the way, he has a 97 too.

A couple days before Christmas I replaced the heater core in my girlfriend's 95. I dont know if it is the same as your 97 or not, but it does not have a passenger air bag (my 99 does and the dash is a little different). I had a haynes manual when I did hers but it was hard to follow. The only thing that hasn't been mentioned by anybody else that i can think of is to loosen the bolts on the hinge at the bottome of the dash on each side. I think they are partially covered by the kick panel/sill plate. That will let it swing toward the seat.

Also, i had to take off the brackets for hood release, brake release and unbolt the steering column so it layed down on the seat. That is all I can think of I hope it helps you.

The haynes manual is in the garage and if you still need help i can review it for you and see what it says.

Hi all: I just need to remove the top dash, boy what a job for a old fart!
all's well on the left side as it is loose. Now it is figuring out what is holding the top right side, as I no longer see visable screws.
I also have a small crack I wish to repair while it is off. Mine has the air bags.
This is good info, as I have not removed the glove box yet, so from your experience, it appears that is where I have to go next.
These old bone just don't want to twist like they used too.
I'll let you know what happens in a couple of days. for now, i got to go give the doc some money and experience. rather work on my truck though.

No Hayes, I need to find a better manual as I have this hayes. Like maybe a chilton. Don't know wheather Seloc has automotive, but they are real detailed in the marine.
Hayes mentioned nothing about screws that I ran accross regarding the glove box area. They aren't bad for the mechanical issues though. As stated, kinda hard to follow some of thier instructions.
Will remove glove box when wind stops blowing.
But thanks to all for the help. I love this sight, and the knowlage I've gained here. GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS!!

Probably the center brace, goes from the cross-brace to below the windshield, iirc.
Could also be the heater control cable, tie-wrapped to the cross-brace.

You should remove everything from the dash, incl the radio, the drink-holder, ash tray, glove-box and everything, also including the air-bag computer on the floor, so you can see back in behind there with a flashlite..

Hey ALL G&G's: I found the screws for the top portion of the dash.Note, there are no screws for the dash in the glove box area of a 1997 slt.. Where I found them is in the center & right vent, which pulls straight out. But due to weather, I haven't figured what kind of screws they are. Got the feeling that it is meant for the whole dash to be dropped as I found the bolts in the kick panel. Weather forbids further work at present
