Ran out of fuel!

This is a new one on me.
I have had this truck for 9 months. I always try to fill up when the gauge reads 1/4 full. Well, today I thought I would wait until I got to Iowa to take advantage of the lower fuel prices. My fuel gauge went below 1/4 but not quite to 1/8. Got close to an intersection and lost power, coasted into a gas station (gas only) and came to a stop. Fortuantely, there was a excavating shop next door and he had some fuel to get me started. It took awhile to get it up and running. But at least I didn't have to bleed the injectors.
Has anyone else experienced this? I know in the past I have pushed the limit but at least the bell would go off once it hit 1/8 full. What's up?

Fuel senders on Dodges have always been flaky, still seem to be.

Do a search here and you'll find plenty, part numbers, tips and tricks, etc.

Or it could be a hole in the fuel pickup line. Are you sure the tank was completely empty?

I had to replace my sender in my fuel tank. When I reinstalled it in the tank I must have set it at the wrong height because it is about the same as your truck. It will be empty at a little less then 1/8 of a tank. This is not a problem because I know when to fill up. You won't have a problem with it now that you know when to fill up.

Mine is the opposit. It reads empty on the guage at about 3/4 and the low fuel light comes on at 1/2. The first tank I ran through it I thought I was getting some realy bad milage!!

I don't trust my fuel gauge on ANY vehicle. I always set the trip odometer and do not exceed a certain mileage based on tank size, a fudge factor, and a conservative guesstimate of fuel economy.

Even then, this isn't foolproof. If you have a pickup blockage or algae, you'll need a biocide or something to get you back on the road.

You rarely need to bleed injectors on a 24V-- just make sure you have good FP and crank away- it should fire.

Thanks for the info. I know this summer I ran the gauge down to 1/8 a few times and the idiot ding went off. So I think it is time to replace the sending unit.
I'm running on the odometer now. My wife told me to start looking for a gas station when it comes off full. LOL

Gas station won't do you much good

Must look for a fuel station.

Why do you think I laughed. When the truck died I pulled into a gas station. If it wasn't for the construction company next door, my wife would have had to walk 2 miles to the nearest fuel station.
