Radio Stays On
Radio Stays On
My radio has just recently started staying on after I turn off the key.
A couple of our older Chevy's have done that for years and we haven't had any problems, but it's pretty annoying on a truck you drive every day.
Anything I should look at, ingition switch, some module, something?
Thanks Guys,
Chris

If you have an amplifier or Infinity system you could be getting feedback down the power ant. wire (AKA amp remote). If there is feedback voltage it could be keeping the deck on. Or if you have installed any accessories into the switched 12v circuit for the radio. You may be getting feedback from there as well. I have seen this happen with FM changers keeping the stock radio on a couple of times. Just an idea and good luck.
here's somewhere to start!!

Lets think about this.
1. By any strange chance, do you have any water hitting your fuse box?
2. Try removing the fuse FOR the radio. Then reinstall it. If the power ever goes away, then you know it is something to do with the radio. If it NEVER goes off, your in BIG trouble. If the radio goes off, but comes back on....I would suspect the radio.
3. Diodes stop voltage/current from traveling through a circut backwards. If the radio is internally shorted somewhere, MAYBE you could get these symptoms. But man, as already stated, I would explore the associated gadjets that are on the same circut as the radio. Because as you can tell, the alternative is pretty hard to believe.
Even though you believe there has been no change to your wiring, go back and check things again.
The only other way to be sure is to unplug your radio. Then with a test light, place the clip to good ground, and the lightable pointy end to the top of the fuse in place IN your fuse block. My guess is that without doing anything right now, if you did this test, you WOULD see 12VDC. But do the test with the radio removed. There should NOT be any 12VDC. THAT would indicate your radio IS toast. DON'T FORGET...Do the test with your key OFF.

I noticed that my radio started staying on when I shut my key off...turned out I left my 10 million candle spotlight and charger plugged in on the bottom cigarette lighter outlet and the battery from the spotlight was running the radio. oops.
