Parking brake adjustment

Just changed out my shoes, loosened up the parking brake cable to re-install on the parking brake bracket on the shoe.

You can use a deep socket to tighten the nut under the cab to tension the parking brake cable, but only until the bolt starts to bottom out on the socket.

Do you need an extra deep socket to finish the adjustment? Where would I find an extra deep socket (its 1/2in) The way the bracket cups around the nut, you cant get an open or box end 1/2 wrench in there

Thanks

You really shouldn't mess with that. The proper way to adjust the parking brake is to jack up the rear and support w/ jackstands and turn the wheel while turning the star nut thru the backing plate on the inside of the brake drums until you feel a bit of drag/ This should leave your shoes adjusted properly and th eemergency brake should grab just fine.
The thing you are attempting to adjust is for the factory to tension the e-brake cable becasue there are variances in the lengths. It isn't the adjustment for the e-brake tension.

Kurt is correct, you shouldn't mess with the cable.
Proper way to adjust the e-brake is to adjust the shoes.
