Overhead console removal
Overhead console removal
The map lights in my overhead console have both taken a dive and I'm wondering what the best way to get the console down without breaking it is? The bulbs are fine, the problem is the switches. Thanks, Eric
If you open the garage door opener cover and the sunglass cover, there are a couple of screws to take out. Then the thing just kind of pops out, with a little tug. There are some tabs that help hold it in. Once it's loose from the ceiling, unplug the wiring harness and the console is free to take where you want to work on it. The switches are pretty easy to get to. I've done it on my 2000, had a problem with a bulb. It's not a big deal, just be patient so you don't break anything.
I'm not sure there are any screws holding your '01 console up. On my '02 there are 2 clips toward the front of the garage door opener holder. Depress these clips and pull down on the front until the clips release. then pull the console back to release the rear clips. Before you go to the trouble check your power. If the lamps don't work either by opening the door or switching the light itself could be a power problem since they use different ground circuits.
My switch went too. POS!
it is in the sunglass bay that the screws are. Then some tabs hold the thing up so you need to pull the whole console to the rear like 1/2 inch and it will come down.
Tell me where you find a good source for those stupid little switches. The *********** wants an arm and a leg.

There are no screws on an 01 that I know of. Theres those 2 metal taps you have to like pinch or press and then pull the whole thing backwards. First time it was a PITA now it seems to come off pretty easily. My switches broke too so I wired them up so they go on with dimmer wheel.
