oil change

So I bought some oil 15W40, oil filter, get under truck today and oil drain plug won't budge. Seems like some idiot before me (this is first oil change since I've had truck) torqued it with pneumatic gun or something. It's not reverse threaded is it? I don't want to break something cause I'm trying to unscrew it and oil pan around it is twisting a bit.

Nope, but they are bloody tight.

The pan should not be flexing though.

Mine always snaps hard when it releases ( flicks the ratchet the other way ), but then threads out very easily after that.

be careful tightening up as they will crack (almost pull the center out of the plug), I used to keep a spare, but now have the fumoto(sp?) its a drain valve that you open and dont need wrenches!! I got mine from Larry B's

Got it loose, had to use a piece of pipe on the end of a ratchet. Put on new filter and filled with 10qts.

form some reason the plug will be a lot tighter than it was tightened .... i tighten mine with a 3/8s ratchet not too tight and i have to use a cheater pipe on the same ratchet to get it loose, but i suppose that's good........ it will never work loose

I've found the same. It's horrible if you use Cummins torque specs, I just tighten till it feels right which is about 20 ft/lbs less than spec.

Did you put 1 qt in the filter before putting it back on? I believe the capacity is 11qts.

I've replaced the stock oil pan plug with one of these on all three I've owned, never leaked or popped open and don't have to worry about torquing more than once.

Geno's has them and have bought them off Ebay before as well

I filled it half way full that way it wouldn't spill when I'm tightening it. Then I've filled it till it was in "SAFE" range on dipstick.
