Your best bet would be to do a search of wrecking yards. When I had to replace the driver's side on my truck, the local dealer wanted $300. It comes as a whole unit, the arm and box. At the time I asked if the new heated mirrors would fit, their answer was no. The base is different enough not to match.

You can't get factory type tow flip out mirrors for 2nd gen with heat/electric option. You have to make hybrids yourself, 3rd gen mirrors matched to 2nd gen bases. Although there are lots of aftermarket mirrors available.

If you don't want to do the 3rd/2nd gen hybrid, check out the **** mirrors. I have a pic in my gallery of a 3/4 front view.

thanks for the direction, gentlemen. i have aftermarket mirrors right now, but the glass vibrates so much you get sea sick trying to look behind you. the 3rd gen/2nd gen hybrid would work for me. now to see if i can round up the parts at a reasonable cost.

****/best top (same mirrors) are great. My 98 has heat and power, bolted right on for just over 300.....and when extended are out about 1 inch further then the best oem mirrors which helps see around my big gooseneck.

You also need a set of 2nd gen towing mirrors. Then swap the bases. I have not done it, but there have been a few threads on here describing the process. I know you need to watch out for a spring. Do a search and you will find all the details.
