odometer not working, speedometer does work

the other day, i didnt like what my trip odometer was telling me. it said something like 350 miles after 3/4 tank of fuel. So in disgust, i jabbed at the reset button so it and it went to zero. It hasnt moved since. Speedo works just fine however. so for the past week or so, my truck has not accumulated any miles. I guess i should say the main odometer is not moving either. Anyone have any ideas?

My guess is that the reset button is stuck on.

Mine quit at 423k The fix is replace the speedometer, about $500 from the dealer. I found a 97 being parted out and now have 144k. I gave $175 for the entire instrument cluster, so now have a spare tach and all the gauges. Changing it out is easy.

On edit, my motor burned up from a faulty sender. You may have stripped a gear. If you disassemble it and that is the problem you can have my old speedo.

im not even sure how to begin to figure the problem out. I guess ill have to take the dash all apart to get access to the speedometer. I'm kinda thinking i can just let it be broke. That way, I'll never have to change the oil since i'll not be racking up any miles on the ticker. My tires ought to last a lot longer as well.

I might not be right here but w/ my 1st gen, it did the same thing that happened w/ you. You reset the trip & everything stops. I had a gear break inside my speedometer & I tore it apart to find out what I needed. It is an easy fix. vist this site & figure out what you need http://www.navhq.com/ . It fixed my problem & is cheaper than a new speedo.

I've jabbed it a few times already. I'll try it for a little while longer just to make sure that wont do the trick. if it doesnt, im gonna have to take stuff apart i guess.
