My "GEN" light just came on!! What do I do?!?!?

Need a little help until my service manual gets here. My "GEN" light keeps popping on after a few minutes of driving. Just started to do so yesterday. If anyone can tell me what I should be looking for or checking, it would be appreciated. my voltage is reading good on the gauge, just under 14.
Thanks
Chris

What dose your voltage gauge read? You could have your alt. checked @ an auto parts place, but don't trade it for a core. If its bad have a electrical shop rebuild it for you. It could be the regulator, in the computer.

Could be a bad alternator or batteries. Check your batteries for voltage, they should read between 12-13 and should be over 14 when charging off the alternator.

Depends on the ambient temp what the truck will charge at, as there is a temp sensor under the battery that detects when it gets hot and keeps it from overcharging. When its 20C+, it will be as low as 13.3V charging. When its -20C, it will be 14.4V or so.
