Mirror flop

My power mirrors on my 97 swing forward when I come to a stop and swing back driving down the road. Just checking if anyone has been there done that before I take one off to see if there is a way to tighten it up.
Thanks,
Brian

Just take the cover off the mount (phillips screw on the bottom). You will see what you need to tighten once the cover is off. Don't make it too tight or you will bend the sheetmetal if somebody bumps into the mirror walking by.

If I remember right we used to have a 96 2500van that was real bad about doing that. I'm thinking that there was a screw or bolt that you can tighten to stop that.

I walked out and looked and I do not see a screw on the outside at the bottom. I have the chrome medium size mirrors. I'd post a picture of it but I'm not sure how.

I don't think there is a screw on the 2nd gen mirrors, you have to pop the door panel off of the inside , then there is 3 bolts (or nuts can't remember) that you take out , and the mirror comes off. As far as tightening it , i have no idea, get it where you want it and squirt some super glue down through the rubber

Yeah I thought about that or something like Seal-All. Would be easier/quicker than taking the door panel off.

THERE ISNT A WAY TO TIGHTEN THEM AND SUPERGLUE DOESNT WORK....BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. I PUT THE '98 STYLE MIRRORS ON EASLY, BUT CANT GET THE WIRING DOWN RIGHT FOR THEM TO MOVE OR TO USE THE HEATING FEATURE.

I have a set of power heated mirrors off my '01' if someone is interested in them. The only problem with them is that they are missing the plug for the power features. I had to cut off the plug when I converted them over to the 3rd. gen mirrors. But if anyone is interested in them all you would have to do is cut your old plug off and crimp or solder it on mine. PM me if interested.

Will the 3rd gen. tow mirrors fit my 97 3500? What modifications have to be done?

You can fix your mirrors. Mine did the same thing when I bought it. Remove the mirror from the truck. The mirror post is held in place by a strap and screws that go into pott metal or cheap cast aluminum. The screws strip the threads in the metal. Retap the threads 1/4-20 you will nee a bottom tap to get enough threads and install socket head cap screws. It is a quick and effective cure.

yeah the wires all function the same, just in different order in the plug, as well as being a different style plug. Nothing a little cut and paste won't take care of. The heat circuit you have to add in. I converted mine....once you have mirror heat you won't go back!!
