looking for an oem radio, what years will fit a 1996

my truck has a cheapo aftermarket radio that only works 1/2 the time. I'd like to find a factory cd unit to put back in my truck. Being my truck is a 1996 I figure that the 1994-1997 radios would work. But, I'm wondering if the 1998-2002 radio's would work to?
I've been looking on ebay and there seems to be a lot more factory radio/cd units for the newer trucks.

thanks,

Let me know if you find that a 99 will fit? If I can find it, pay shipping and it's yours. Sorry if this s/b placed in the class.

thanks,
2001 was a year of change. Some will fit yours and some won't. 2002 won't fit. I had a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and it had the factory AM/FM/Cassette/CD player in it. From the mid 80's through 2000, you can plug in any factory radio except for the Infinity systems. The later the year the better your chance of finding one with a CD player. I bought a Kenwood that has a plug on the front for a flash drive and haven't used the CD player because you can put a HUGE number of songs on the flash drive. Get the instalation kit and wiring adpator kit and it plugs right in and sounds better.

I replaced mine with a 2000 model radio I think. The plugs were arranged slightly different but plugged right in.

I would try wwwCrutchfield.com and choose the "build your own radio" option.

I did not like the stock radio and the the one they replaced mine with was not much better ... it is a SC and has 25 Watts and with the kit it works with the infinity system I have for speakers ... but the usage of it will make you made .. the buttons are to small and it is a bit harder for it to program and it also does not compare to the audio the OEM radio had
So I not have replaced it with a DVD player that can play any CD or DVD and can watch TV from it ( movies ) and it is very easy to program and it also can be stopped and when you get back in the truck it remembers the radio station you were listing to and has it start from where you stopped from listing to it .. so you do not have to guess what you missed .. it has a Hard Drive to record what is on and if you were wanting to watch a TV program ... it has a TV adapter you can add so you can get the locals and watch what you missed also
and it has blue tooth so you phone come threw the radio and you can answer and talk to the person and after the call it picks up where you left off at what you were watching or listing to
and it has a backup camera hookup or you can put on a camera on the back and also on your side vies mirrors .. that works great when you are driving down the road and can not see someone in the mirror on your side the camera can see them and you do not hit them and if someone is ******* you .. behind you or to your side you can make a recording of them to show the police
and the Sound is great and just fills the truck and you can not hear road noise and other things if you turn it up a bit
It has a full sound coverage and you can here the horns as well as the base and the full range of instruments
Ans I like the thing you can talk to it and it remembers what you have programmed it to do .. so you can keep you eyes on the road and not fumble to look for things
But I can understand you wanting to get the OEM version to keep the truck as stock as you can because you may want to sell the truck later and you can say all is stock and kept it up and get more for it ... ppl want a stock vehicle to show and also to say they have the real thing and nothing has been done but kept up in full service .... sort of like a person that has the first issue of a book ... they can go around and brag about it and say it has run this long and has not had any problems and can brag how good there truck is over other types

Hey man, I put a new pioneer unit in my '01 and put the factory cd/tape deck from mine into my Dads' 96. I just plugged it right in. Took about 20 minutes.
