Inverted y to T steering linkage
To those who have done this. I am thinking of doing this upgrage to my 96. I had once herd that the tie rod can can hit the diff cover with this setup. Any truth to this? If not how close is it to the diff cover once relocated? I need to change my tie rods soon and want to know if I should just buy new stock stuff or go inverted T. Thanks
Yes it will but the stock wheels will rub a little when lock all the way over. you can grind off an eighth to quarter inch off of the tie rod ends to stop this. I was looking at the inverted T on the new Dodges and liked it allot more then the early set up. I would recommend checking to see if it might work on our trucks with a little modification. I get a little drag link rotation with my set up.
Bringing an old one back up.
Once you convert over to the '98-'99 steering linkage, can you use the steering damper from a '98-'99 or is the axle mounting point different?
I went to the "T" setup on my '01 and I'm not running a steering damper now, but was looking for a way to put one back in.

oh and I haven't put one on yet either.. its been along time since I did the conversion.. but getting ready to do one soon...
I knew the '99s had the clamp on style since I helped my buddy remove his when he encountered a "road hazard" that damaged his. I just wasn't sure if I could get the clamp-on setup and use it on my '01 with the '98-99 steering. I figured it should work unless they moved the axle end mounting point when they changed the steering setup in '00.

this was 2+ yrs ago
the bracket is a beefed up version of the 98-99 type
hope this helps.---john---
Perfect, that's the info I was looking for. I just didn't want to end up with parts that didn't fit since I'll probably be getting them online. Thanks!
IF you look closly at the pic you can see the re-enforcement between the tierod and bracket.
Hope this helps.......John
