How did they steal it?
If it was in the typical manner by breaking out the ignition lock I would suspect some of the wiring in the steering column is damaged.

The windows rolled down a little creates a slight vacuum in the cab. Smokers can identify with that one. Maybe there is a short in the dome ilght, that goes away when the headliner is pulled down from the roof a little? Just thinking out loud....

I had left the keys in. So ignition was still intact.

My 96 just started having the same interior light problem as well as the hood light flashing, but they do not flash together. I haven't noticed if they stop when I open a window. Also they don't always flash and it's usually on a bumpy road.

I would think one of the door ajar switches is out of adjustment. Sit in the cab with the dome light out, then lean on each door to put outward pressure on it. One of them will likely turn the light on.

It's funny that it only happens sporatically, usally at night . Or when on a particually rough street.

That's when it usually happens, over bumps when the doors and body flex a bit.

Capt. Ron- to adjust it, open the door and locate the switch on the forward jamb.
Pull or jently pry it straight out of its hole in the body. Disconnect the connector.
Use a vise, or a hole in your workbench to support the switch by the collar with the button facing down. The button must be free to move. Then give it a tap or two on the bottom (the connector end). It will click everytime it moves a notch. Then, when you reinstall it and shut the door, it will adjust itself for the door. They are really intended to be adjusted that one time when first installed, but this works pretty well.
