HP difference between 99 and 01 auto
I have been searching for over an hour and cant come up with a answer, I have a 99 and a good friend just purchased a 01 auto, my truck has exhaust and drop in filter, and 285s, his has an just a drop in filter and 265s, when driving the 2 trucks they feel very similar, then when you get in the throttle hard and boost comes in the 01 feels like it revs a lot quicker and the boost hits harder, mine doesnt feel the same, it runs good and has a good amount of pull on the highway but his is nice dand peppy, can the difference be the hy35 vs the hx35, and if so does that signify the different power levels, sorry to rant.

Those are some of the links I found, I was more tryin to figure out what was causing the difference, is the hy35 giving the 01s that bit more hp and tq? the compression stayed the same for the 2 years, only thing I might have found is that the newer model or standard truck for 99 has a larger injector, Thanks again guys.

I have a 99 and a good friend just purchased a 01 auto,
Edit: I wasn't thinking It has to be a ETC due to it being an auto. ETH only available with 6 speed.
can the difference be the hy35 vs the hx35
The HY-35 builds boost a little more quickly than the HX-35 does when the engine load is light, so from an emissions standpoint the HY-35 is better suited to stop-and-go driving with an automatic transmission.
FWIW: The HY-35 and HX-35 are functionally equivalent under most engine loads, and the wastegates on both turbos are set for the same boost level. The HY-35 does not breathe as well as the HX-35 at higher speeds under a heavy load. The choke point of the HX35 is around 35psi; the HY35 chokes at about 29psi.

So its all in the turbo then, wow I didnt think that would make that much of a drivabilty difference, so the turbo is the only difference? not injectors or injection pump pressures, thanks again guys.

I have noticed a similiar difference between 99's & 01's. I have a 99 that did come set at 215 hp which I had a cummins tech go in & reprogram it to the 235. They were able to do that. I didn't notice any difference at all. My buddies 01 is bone stock & it is as powerful as mine was with an ez on my truck, or close to it. By the way Ford owns about 7% stock in Cummins, so I would not say that Ford owns Cummins. There is something different about these trucks,& it may very well be the turbo. I just don't know.

Ford no longer owns any part of Cummins, its just a running joke around here.
Check out the FAQ page from Cummins.com Does Ford Own Cummins?
