Highbeam switch/relay malfunction

Back when I was tapping power for my TST I pierced the wrong wire in the main harness on the firewall, and got the highbeam relay wire... because everytime the power was turned on while trying to test the TST I could hear the high beam relay clicking. I finally removed the tap, taped up the wire, and now even a year later, whenever I switch to high beams, it takes anywhere from 2-20 tries to get the low beams to come back on.

The high beams come on just fine everytime, but when switching back, the highs just go off, and the lows dont come on and leave me in the dark.

Is it that pierced wire or did I mess up the relay? and where would that relay be located

I have the same problem, and I've been told that the headlight switch was bad, and or the clock spring was bad,and or the connections in the selector switch in the steering column were bad. So far all have been checked and appear to be normal, with out burn marks or high resistant connections. (intermitant problems are the worse, as the watched pot never boils) Good luck finding your gremlin. Ironbutt

Anybody have a solution to this problem? The same thing has started happening to me. Going from high beams to low beams, every so often the highs will go off, and the lows will not come on. Leaves me with just the parking lights. Seems there is a pattern as the first two posts are 2002 trucks and mine is too. Any help would be appreciated.

I have no hi beams, I think the updated relay kit for the head lights is going bad. I could wiggle the wires in the plug and get them to come on. Ground wire exactly.

If it is like my 02 and like some of the other cars/trucks I've owned, it is in the hi/low beam switch. Like the earlier posts, the high works fine it just does not switch to low but will switch back to high if pulled again.

I just went thorugh a very similar problem with my 01. I replaced the multyswitch (the lever handle thing with hi low, windshield washer ect) and that fixed the problem.

The other thing that happens is bad corrosion of the wire harness under the drivers side battery.

Mine do that also, but from experience I know it is the multi-function switch on the steering column. Not too hard to replace, but it does have tamper proof screws to contend with. I drilled the little nub out enough to get a screwdriver in there, then replaced them with normal bolts.
