head scratcher from the new guy
New to this site and I'm diggin' what I'm readin'! Keep up the good work.
I have an '01 3500 H.O. that I bought used (i.e. already bombed). The remodel included an Edge EZ chip, a holley lift pump, some big injectors of unknow ancestory, and pillar mount guages (there could be more, but this is all I've discovered). I thought I was in heaven everytime I went for a drive until an interesting problem developed. My dodge cuts out at 1700 RPMs and at 2000 RPMs, depending on what gear I'm in. At the same time the check engine light comes on and I get ODBII codes P1693 (Turbo charge control ckt malfunction), P1689 (Oil pressure solenoid ckt malfunction), and P0234 (Turbo overboost). The cutout @ 1700 is intermittent and can be overcome if I stay in the accelerator, or pump the clutch to keep the revs up. The cutout at 2000 is like a brick wall. I can't go past this no way no how. My suspicion is that the trouble codes are telling the computer to cut the fuel supply, but I don't know why. I have unplugged the Edge and tried resetting the computer by unhooking batteries for a while. Nothing seems to be fooling my truck however. I am leaning toward an electrical problem or maybe a computer problem. Any thoughts or suggesions? Thanks in advance.

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
Welcome Aggie,
I would take the truck to a dealer you trust, have them clear the codes, and see what happens. Sometimes disconnecting the batteries will not clear the codes, but the DRBIII will. Let us know how it turns out.

A few dead spots in the APPS maybe? Try recalibrating it.

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
Check your turbo to see if the boost elbow, turnbuckle, or turbo master has been installed. They will allow your boost to rise above the 20lb limit. I have read that the ecm will stat to defuel when the boost goes above 20lb. If you are setting turbo codes the map sensor or connection to the boost fooler (connection from edge-ez) could be bad. If your motor is still under warranty and you go to the dealer with the bombs, the warranty will be shot. Do you know someone with the superchips programer? If so they can read and clear the codes for you. I have heard that some of the auto part stores will clear them for free. There should be others more knowledgeable than me who will come along to give you a hand before long.

Good luck

I have the same problem, I recalibrated the apps and it ran great for three weeks and now it's worse than ever, I bought and replaced the apps tonight and it made no change.
... Reg price for the apps was $442.00, my cost was still $353.60, a little spendy for a shot in the dark.
Aggie, welcome to the site and if you figure it out let me know, I will do the same. I will try to pull codes at work in the morning to see if there is any and reply back with what I have found.

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
My truck will run 30lbs of boost with the Edge EZ and turnbuckle without setting any overboost codes and/or defueling. I would unhook the EZ, disconnect the batteries and do the APPS reset procedure. Try running the truck without hooking the EZ back up after the APPS reset and see what happens, then go from there.

My code was P0216 *Injection Pump Timing Failure* , Looks like we do have a differant problem.

I've removed EZ, unhooked batteries, and reset apps. Problem persists. Time permitting I am going by AutoZone to see if they can clear the codes. So far nothing has cured the problem. A previous problem I had with this truck led the Cummins House to a bad splice in the wiring harness. I think this may be the cause of my current problem. Does anyone know how difficult and/or expensive it would be to replace the wiring harness? I don't have a dealer I trust very well in this area so I would rather try to repair it myself.

Sounds like your injection pump is on its last legs. I would have it checked. Beware though the VP44 pump is expensive to the tune of about 1500 bucks if its not on warranty.

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
The original poster sounds like he has either a bad EZ or bad connections on the EZ.
The P0234 (Turbo overboost limit exceeded) leads one to believe the boost fooler isn't working properly.
The P1689 is actually
P1689 No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module
and the P1693 is the companion code that follows pretty much every other code, (not the turbo circuit malfunction code mentioned).
As the EZ interrupts the communication between the ECM and Injection Pump, again it points to either an EZ problem, or connector problem.
Cheapest easiest way to check is disconnect the EZ, clean connections, apply dialectric grease (to keep water out) and reconnect.
Drive it a while and see if problems come back.
If they do, you'll probably have to send the EZ to Edge and see if they replace it for free or not.
Good luck.

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
I had a mechanic clear the trouble codes this evening. That lasted for as long as it took me to get out of the parking lot :'(. I didn't mash on it or anything. I was driving like an old man and before I could get out of 2nd gear I had a check engine light and my truck started cutting out again. After I threw a very large temper tantrum >

, I decided I would not be able to solve this problem myself. Monday I will consult a dealer and pay too much for them to do something that may or may not fix my truck ???. May the CTD gods be with my Dodge...........

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
I replied to your PM with a long winded PM.
Basically said thus.
Eternally Optomistic, I'd exhaust the simple and cheap things first.
Clean and dry electrical connectors.
Even with the EZ out of the circuit, dirty connectors can lead to all kinds of problems.
Rereading the first post, I am curious about the codes.
The Oil Pressure and Overboost code together seem odd.
Not likely they'd occur at the same time.
You mentioned a bad splice in the wiring harness somewhere, would this splice be inline with the Boost (MAP) sensor and the oil pressure sender both?
It could be the simplest solution of all. The splice could still be bad, or dirty, or letting moisture in.
I'd check those, and what I mentioned in the PM before taking it into the Dealer for service.
The visit to the Dealer for the trucks history would still be a good thing though.

Re:head scratcher from the new guy
You're right phox. It looks like I misinterpereted the codes the first time around. After clearing them I got a P1689 again right off the bat. Looks like my ECM isn't making good contact with the injection pump module, as you stated earlier. Bear in mind this is without my Edge plugged in. I'll clean everything and reassemble. Maybe my Dodge is spoiled with the Edge and it refuses to run without it! Thanks to everyone for all the help. Hopefully I can post soon telling all my problem is solved.
Re:head scratcher from the new guy
Hey DodgeDrivinAggie,
Sorry to hear about the trucks problem. Hope you can get it resolved economically quick. I noticed the trucks mileage in your profile, looks like you might have some warranty left on the engine. I would make sure the Edge EZ and what ever other 'after market boxes' you may have are removed from the truck before visiting the dealer. I just hate it when they have a cheesy excuse to deny warranty.
