Grease recommendations..

I did a quick search on 'grease' but couldnt find any specific recommendations..

So what kind of grease should i be using for my three fittings? Walmart carries several different types.. A marine (waterproof??) grade, a general purpose, and a lithium all purpose I believe..

How often do you grease?

Comments..

thanks

I grease at each oil change. Fill until I see the boot start to expand. I use the lithuium variety.

Do any of you guys use a needle and inject grease through the boot on the balljoints??? Ive heard of people doing this and people getting much longer service out of their balljoints...

Re:Grease recommendations..

I have good luck with Schaeffer's #221 Moly EP grease. It's an aluminum complex grease that's very tacky and won't wash out. A little difficult to find, but it's good stuff reasonably priced.

I think I over grease. Some say every six months is fine.
I like to jack the front end up to take the weight off, and then inject the grease into the zerk fittings, seems to get more in without rupturing the boots.

The ball joints on my truck have grease zerks.

Re:Grease recommendations..

I prefer any good quality grease that contains moly. I also grease at each oil change. Just enough to expand the boot. Having grease squirting out all over will attract dirt. My '01 also has grease zerks on the upper ball joints only.

IMO, the synthetic stuff (Royal Purple, Amsoil, Chevron and others) is worth the extra money.....

Re:Grease recommendations..

I like to use the AMSOIL grease, they have one I use for ball joints, fiitings, ect. And one I use for bearings. The cost isn't worth mentioning, at around 2-3 bucks a tube. I see the most gain when used on our three ATV's, the front a-arms, steering rear swingarm all get heavey use, and are often submirged in water, and my favorite....SAND!. The AMSOIL works very well and keeps everything well lubed and cuts down on replacement cost.
