fuel sending unit

Well I was about a mile from my drive way and my fuel gauge drops from just under half tank to emptey, fuel light comes on and it dings at me. I am guessing my sending unit just went bad, right?

Has anyone replaced this befor, if so, how bad of a job is it and how much is it going to cost me.

Thanks
Heath

I've done it twice. Long story, but its not a bad job really. The biggest pain is getting most of the fuel out of the tank so you can drop it. The tank is not heavy empty.

Also, if I were you I would replace all of the fuel line quick connectors by cutting them off and using 2 hose clamps each line to the fuel module. Make sure the little arrows line up aon the module and the tank when you put it back togeather.

HINT if you see a little green ball floating in your tank throw it out. That is what happened to me. It is the anti-spill valve ball incase of a roll over accident. Mine got into the tank and hung up the sending unit.

Does anyone know for sure if part number 4797738 is the right sending unit for my 95? Is it only about $40?

That can be a trick if the gauge doesn't work.
That's one reason why I always tilt the bed up instead, so much easier.

The number and price was right as of 6 months ago.

on edit the current price is $47 just plug the number -4797738- in here http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...OEM&siteid=835

Funny thing I got about a mile from the house this morning and up she came. Then every time I hit the brakes she would drop then after a bit it would come back up, almost like it is too sensitive. Thanks

Quite a few people have said useing Marvel Mystery Oil caused their gauges to mess up but after use was discontinued the gauge went back to normal.
