Smile Fuel economy- revisited

I recently posted on my poor economy and got some great tips on how to up it. I have now went from the 14.2 avg to an 18.9 avg, this is combined towing and highway driving! I am VERY pleased thanks to everyone who helped advise me along the way, exp. Infadel who advised to shed the kitty and provided the part number to make it happen. Thanks again guys. I am very confident that if I were totally highway driving I would hit 20 with ease.

Question Why not a replacement K&N?

The BHAF's are truely B! What about simply replacing the stock unit with a K&N?

They seem to be standard fare in aftermarket filters.......

Just curious is all!

The reason K&Ns aren't so popular is because the flow and filter about the same as no filter at all.

K&N-- lots of market share and hype, not so good at filtering.

The AFE PG7 will flow with a K&N, only give you the filtration you need.

Rule of thumb: if youhave dust in your intake tube, your filter isn't doing its job.

Very interesting to be sure.
What about the stock (application) AMSOIL filter? I'd rather open my airbox a bit and go with a high flow filter that will actually filter and keep the stock location if possible. Where can I get an AMSOIL filter on line?
I have no intention of jacking out gobs of power. i'd rather live vicariously thru you guys.

The Amsoil stock-replacment filter is a GREAT filter for stock applications or modest HP uprates.

The oiled-foam design filters very well, even though it's somewhat restrictive.

If you like the oiled-foam design (I do ver much), then I'd steer you towards a UNI oiled foam filter. These are the best oiled foam filters around, and they filter out of the powdered-sugar silt of Baha.

http://www.unifilter.com/truck_applications.htm

They also offer universal-fit filters, but I don't think they have one with a 4" ID that you'd need to mate to the OEM inlet tube.

Of course, you could get a Scotty Air system and get BOTH great filtration AND high-flow and EGT reduction.

The Scotty would be best overall, but it's a lot more than the $50 or so a stock replacement UNI would be.

Just be ABSOLUTELY sure that you aren't going to increase the HP much at all, or you're going to wish you had the Scotty.
