fuel additive revisited

I have read alot about fuel additive, but am still somewhat confused. I have 10k on my 03 and have not used one yet A buddy I work with strongly reccomends it and cummins does not.
Is there anyone who does not run it and had trouble
Thanks
jim

After seeing quite a few injector changes and how nasty the ones looked coming out of trucks not using fuel additive, I will not go without it. The injectors I see coming out of trucks running it are always clean, no deposits, just a thin layer of black.

I've run additive almost every tank on my '03 and so far at almost 26,000 miles not a lick of trouble.

Give me Amalgamated or give me death!

Stanadyne's a great conditioner(A bit expensive.). The only one Cummins itself recommends is Fleetguard. I've used it during the winter, and will return to IPPF for the spring, fall, and summer.

I use the Rotella DFA, get 19 MPG average and the truck has run flawlessly, on the rare tank full when I dont add the Rotella, yes, there is a very slight drop in economy, and a noticable drop in how "peppy" the engine is.

Cool Amalgamated

Coobie I think Stanadyne is about the best you can get. I use Amalgamated though, it's hard to get, but very worth it, by far the best I've ever used. . .and believe me I've tried them all, except for Howes.

Especially if you are running winter fuel an addative is almost a must. You can immediately tell the difference in how it runs.

no one has commented on the Howe brand yet? winter they recommend 2 ozs per 10 gal summer 1 oz for 10 gal. at 11.00 a gal that is pretty inexpensive. Have talked to a number of big truck drivers and they all speak highly of it.
all the major truck stops handle it.

I use Howes and it seems to help. I belive it definetly helps lube the VP44. A lot of big rigs use it.

Gary C, just call them up and ask for the TDR Special, and they'll know what you want.

Amalgamated sells commercially, but if you call them and tell them you're a Cummins owner or from TDR (doesn't matter whether or not you are, they sell to any HD diesel pickup owners) and they will give you the right stuff. It's a concoction of their best. . . top quality lubricity additive, water separater, TRUE 6+ cetane boost, and top quality detergents and fuel system conditioners.

Like I said it's hard to get, and there are some catches:

Minimum quantity = 5 gallons
5 gallons =$50 + $40 shipping = $90
Must mail in a check, no credit cards

The Northwest Bombers are in the middle of a bulk purchase. . . we have a 55 gallon drum of the stuff coming and it was all spoken for in 5 days. Cost $677 with shipping, so everyone is saving $25 per 5 gallon quantity.
