front Hub will not budge, anymore tips
trying to help a friend is 01 6 speed 2500,
taking off the front hubs. what a pain,
the powersteering trick work great for when we did it on my truck, his this has not helped at all. soaking the hubs with pb blaster all week. even tried keeping the hub bolts 1/8th loose and driving them slowly to break the seal. one came off this way. now 1 stubborn hub left. tried the power steering, a impact on the bolts, knocking the housing with a BFH and driving on it over speed bumps. any other ideas out there to get this done. I will help him tomorrow with this and hope to close that project.

Ouch, that sounds like its in there! On my old 1500 I had one hub the same way, and I went through the same processes trying to get it off. Finally I spent about 3 hours switching between torching it, then running a hose over it, and got it to break a little bit pounding a chisel in there (between back of hub and knuckle) with a 10lb sledge.

I had trouble replacing mine too.
I eventually cut the ball joints off, took the assembly to a shop with a press,
I watched as he pressed them off. The pressure guage went to 19,500 !!!!
He said he has done a lot of them and never seen one go that high. Ussually the come apart be 10,000.

lets hope it doesnt get to there. drove it more, with bolts loose and hitting rubbing up against curbs. still no luck. I think he is going to drive it locally for a couple days and see what happens.

If you have access to a torch Id try heating the knuckles and spraying PB blast in when its nice and hot.
I use moly grease on anything that slides rolls or pivots.. but when I swap hubs on mine I give them a good coating of aluminum anti-seize. That stuff is great.

That unit bearing is going to be toast by the time you get it out of there.
Been there done that. Had a 10# slide hammer, wedges, BFH & lots of heat to get it off. Sucks because those bearings aren't cheap!

When I had one that wouldn't budge with the power steering trick what worked was to to have someone turn the steering wheel hard to press while I gave the end of the axle a good whack with a 20 lb sledge.
Only took one hit. Sounded like a shotgun when it broke loose.
