Four-Way Hazard Flasher Switch

My emergency flasher switch has not worked correctly since I got the truck. When I push down on the switch to activate the flashers it does nothing. When I barely press down on the switch the flashers work fine but the switch is not pressed far enough to stay in the on position. My theory is that either the part of the switch that holds it in the on position, or the contacts for the switch are miss-aligned. I took the black plastic housing off the steering column hoping to find easy access to the switch but I was wrong. It seems to be all one unit connected to the turn signal. There are two small screws on the back close to the flasher switch, I removed them but still not able to get to the inside of the switch to try and replace or repair. Has this happened to anyone before, or does anyone know how to fix the switch?

My flashers only go on if I turn on the turn signal first.
Then they stay on even if the turn signal is off.
Don't know if this is normal but that's how mine work.

Try changing the flasher. That fixed mine when it did that.

I added a pic. to my gallery of what it looks like under the steering column cover. I don't think there is a problem with the flasher itself. It feels like the switch is not completing the circuit when in the "on" position sine it will work fine if I barley press down on the flasher switch.

Mine was doing the same thing yours is doing. I replaced the flasher and that fixed it.The flasher is only $12 and the switch is $42.

I can't get mine to work period. Changed flasher and that is about all I can think of to check. Talked with mechanic at work said it is more than likely the switch. O'well ain't had them for 3 yrs dont need them know.

Linetrash75. for your problem check the small wire that goes from your battery terminal to the breaker box on the fender. That can corrode off and is what supplies the power for the four way . Give it a little tug and see if it pulls loose.
