Factory Fog LIghts on my 96
Factory Fog LIghts on my 96
I am trying to figure out how to wire up my stock fog lights in my 96. The switch is in the dash. And lights have the wire harness. But the switch is not connected to the lights. The previous owner did something to the factory harness. I want to run new wires from the switch on the dash to my fog lights in the dash. Does anyone know how the wires from the switch should hook up to the fog lights? I have searched this site endlessly and can not find any info on making a new wire harness from switch to lights. The fog lights l have two wires. But I though I read somewhere that they are positive ground?
They are on a relay from the factory. You will have a trigger wire to the relay and the rest of the wiring will go to the foglights. Locating the relay is a good first step...
When you say "positive ground" I think you actually mean to say negative switched. In this case the positive leads are hooked up and the power is supplied when the circuit is completed thru contacting the ground lead. Not uncommon in newer vehicles.

If you are familiar with relay wiring its pretty easy.
You will have a trigger post, which is the wire from the light switch, a lead post, wire from power source, a ground and two or three accessory posts for your lights. I went through two NAPA relays before I got one that worked!
An old off roaders trick is to use the floor mounted high beam switch from 60-70's cars and wire it to a relay. They are super heavy duty and easy to trigger with your foot, out of the way and easy/cheap to use.
Good luck.
