Extending AC Evap Drain Tube - Winter Question

I extended my AC EVap drain tube with 5/8 heater hose, My question is. If I use defrost during the winter time, does water drip out of the tube? I'm thinking this could cause a freeze up in the heater hose.

i had the same concern so i ran the hose more straight down on the outside of the frame by the brake line and 4x4 lines witch you can see by looking in the pass. side wheel well and attached it there, also cut the end of the line at an angle.

I only extended my drain down about a foot.....it works great as the water won't climb up the outside of the hose and back through the drain hole in the fire wall. You won't have any condensation to deal with in the cool weather so that won't be anything to worry about as far as moisture freezing in the tube. I have had my drains extended for 2 winters and have not had any problems with them being plugged.

It is very easy to disable the A/C in defrost especially on a 12 valve. It will cost you nothing and only take 15 minutes. You will still be able to run the A/C in defrost any time you want with the stock switch.

It's only involved if you want to get fancy with a stock looking install. All you really need to do is cut one wire and install an A/C on-off switch in it. Might be more worth it on a 24 as they have the A/C on in more vent positions than just defrost.

I still don't understand why the compressor cycles so much when the AC is not used.....drives me nuts listening to the thing cycle away in the middle of winter.

Defrost uses A/C to dry the air out to defog quicker.

How will the evap dry air if it being bypassed on the heat settings in the winter? On high heat, all air is run through the heater core and diverted from the evap.

Yes, Heat and Vent don't use the A/C.

Defrost, defrost/vent, heat/vent all use A/C.

Dodge might have it set up so A/C cycles even in the Heat and Vent settings, to keep things lubed up for when you need Defrost or one of the blends.
